Description and Table of Contents

Description

The field of antenatal diagnosis is one of the most rapidly changing areas of research in obstetrics and gynaecology. The information in this book, published within months of the presentations given by the Study Group of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, aims to keep pace with the fast developments in research and clinical practice. A wide range of new techniques including maternal serum screening, chorion villus sampling, doplar ultrasound, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging have become available. There are continual improvements in ultrasound imaging. In addition, the explosion of knowledge in molecular biology has opened up the field of pre-implantation diagnosis and genetic disease. Besides describing the most recent advances in these fields, this book discusses the psychological, ethical and economic aspects of the new technology, the organization of regional genetic services and the impact on non-specialist clinicians providing routine antenatal care. This book of proceedings on obstetrics and gynaecology, genetics is intended for researchers and clinicians.
