"The Insights on Contemporary Issues Series" is a collection of books which concentrates on a wide range of social geography and policy related issues of direct concern to students, lecturers and policy-makers. In our complex, modern world, legal services have become a necessity. However, the legal services currently in operation in the U.K. do not guarantee equality of service. This book looks at the access to justice, through the legal service, for rural populations, who have had to accept a different style or standard of legal service. "Justice Outside the City" assesses the distribution of legal services nationwide and compares this to the coverage in rural areas, highlighting the problems and making recomendations for improvements. The book provides the framework for the current legal service in the U.K. and is based on the findings of the Economic and Social Research Council funded "Access to justice in Rural Britain" project. It also looks at the role of para-legal services such as, the Citizens Advice Bureau in providing legal services for rural areas, and compares the U.K. legal service with those in operation in the U.S.A., Europe and Australia.
