Description and Table of Contents

Description

The revised, updated, and expanded second edition of this text places much stronger emphasis on therapeutics than its predecessor and provides state-of-the-art information on the pharmacotherapy of more than 40 neurological and psychiatric disorders. Organised along clinical lines, i.e. by disease entity, the book examines the pathophysiology of each disorder, details the mechanisms of action of the drugs used in treatment, and then integrates this core information in discussions of clinical pharmacology and practical therapeutic issues. Highlights of the second edition include introductory chapters on the principles of neuropharmacology; greatly expanded and updated coverage of convulsive disorders, stroke, and transient ischemic attacks; a new chapter on tardive dyskinesia; and new material on HIV infection and other infectious diseases of the central nervous system.
