内容説明

Offering a contribution to the study of immigrant-union relations in Australia, this book explores the levels of participation and representation of immigrant men and women in the union movement, providing an analysis of their relative exclusion from union structures. The book identifies problem areas in the interaction - or the lack of it - between Australian immigrants and their unions, which have significant implications for union and government policies. The practices and perceptions of the 1980s are also examined, and Australian immigrant-union relations in the 1990s challenged. "Australian Unions and Immigrant Workers" provides a synthesis of the issues from the perspectives of social policy, social justice, sociological theory, industrial relations, immigration and multicultural issues. MARKETResearchers and students in industrial relations and the sociology of work, as well as social policy. Loucas Nicolaou has worked in the Australian Office of Multicultural Affairs, within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, since 1987, initially as a Consultant, and then as an Adviser in the Social Justice Division. In 1989, supported by a British Council Award and the Australian government, he worked for three months as a Research Scholar at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
