A new edition of the 13th-century poem, a unique example of the epic in the style of the mester de clericia. Based on the deeds of Fernán González, the first Count of Castile, the poem is believed to have been composed by acleric of the monastery of Arlanza. Though the poem was left incomplete, the lacunae of the manuscript have been filled in with material from Spanish chronicles.
