This is a record of the author's journey in 1927, when he walked 300 miles across Spain, from Badajoz on the Portuguese border to Vigo in the north. He describes a country isolated from the outside world, where many people had never seen a foreigner, a land of great poverty but also one of unfailing courtesy, hospitality and lively curiosity. V.S.Pritchett is also author of "A Cab at the Door", "Midnight Oil", "The Spanish Temper" and "London Perceived" as well as several collections of short stories.
