Description and Table of Contents

Description

Changes in Science Education and Achievement is the third in a series of three volumes presenting the results of the second IEA Science Study. This volume considers the changes in science education and achievement from 1970 to 1984 in Australia, England, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States (the countries that took part in both the first and second IEA Science Studies). Specific chapters address such issues as the influence of attitude on science achievement, gender differences, beginning science in the elementary school, the influence of home circumstances on achievement and on educational and occupational expectations, and the teaching practices which enhance the learning of science. Of particular interest are the examinations of the changes in achievement in the 10 and 14 year old age groups, in the conditions under which science is taught, and in the science curriculum.
