Description

This book provides a general introduction to Soviet politics and examines the key features of party and governmental operations. It discusses such topics as Soviet economic organization and policy shortfalls and controversial areas such as religion, mixed nationalities, crime, the status of women and the family. Revised to bring the text up-to-date with the revolutionary changes of the Gorbachev era, this edition incorporates a new chapter on social problems relating to women, reproduction and youth. The glossary has been updated and appendices now provide texts of the USSR Constitution (including the extensive revisions which were made to it in late 1988) and the Rules of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.
