A book intended for research workers, graduate/third year undergraduate students in neuroscience and pharmacology and interested research clinicians. This volume provides comprehensive reviews of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tolerance to, and dependence upon, a wide spectrum of psychotropic drugs of abuse. The common neuroanatomical pathways involved, and the adaptive processes that occur at the receptor level, are discussed, together with how such features relate to the clinical problem.
