Description and Table of Contents
Description
This volume contains contributions by leading experts, providing an overview of the state of the art of Iterative Methods in Linear Algebra, and presenting an up-to-date starting point for bibliographical searches. The symposium gathered more than 100 participants from over 25 countries. There were 7 invited lectures (by O. Axelsson, F. Chatelin, D. Kincaid, A. van der Sluis, H.A. van der Vorst, E.L. Wachspress and A.Yu Yeremin) and nearly 70 accepted contributed papers comprising among others, parallel and vector iterative algorithms, methods for solving non-symmetric problems, preconditioned conjugate gradient methods for symmetric problems, spectral methods, numerical methods for the analysis of Markov models and complex variable methods.
Table of Contents
Invited lectures. Construction of variable-step preconditioners for
inner-outer iteration methods (O. Axelson, P.S. Vassilevski). Elements of a
condition theory for the computational analysis of algorithms (F. Chatelin,
V. Fraysse). Stationary second-degree iterative methods and
recurrences (D.R. Kincaid, D.M. Young). The convergence behaviour of
conjugate gradients and Ritz values in various circumstances (A. van der
Sluis). Conjugate gradient type methods for nonsymmetric linear systems
(H.A. van der Vorst). Consistent sparse factorization (W.P. Noronha, E.L.
Wachspress). Sparse approximate inverse preconditionings for solving 3D CFD
problems on massively parallel computers (Ju.B. Lifshitz, A.A. Nikishin,
A.Yu. Yeremin).
