Description and Table of Contents

Description

This book is concerned solely with statistical and scientific databases - an area which, as far as the publishers are aware, has not been presented in a single volume up until now. The book covers all the topics appertaining to statistical and scientific databases, including: physical database support (compression methods, buffering strategies, algorithms for aggregation and so on), data models for statistical databases, statistical query languages and their optimization, precision processing queries, data security, statistical expert systems, and geographically distributed data. There is an increasing interest in databases designed specifically for use by scientists and statisticians from many organizations and institutions. The only information currently available is scattered throughout the literature and this book, in providing all the necessary material in one volume, should prove a valuable handbook for users.
