This text brings together information on expert databases, and integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Database (DB) systems. The text is organized around the premise that effective application of AI technology, and the development of future computing systems requires the combination of AI and database technologies. The primary emphasis is on EDS architecture, but the book goes on to discuss the whole process of building Knowledge Based Systems(KBS) in an attempt to unravel some of the concepts of AI. Thus, the book emphasizes the practical application of KBS to industry, basing its illustrative material around the extensive use of expert systems on small, commercially-oriented projects with a strong database flavour.
