Description
Among the most respected cultural figures in the Soviet Union today, academic Dmitrii Sergeevich Likhachev has influenced generations of Soviet historians, and today he is in the forefront of the movement for greater openness in Soviet history and literature. This book contains Likhachev's "Zametki O Russkom" and a selection of his contemporary essays. All previously unavailable in English, the material in this work focuses on Likhachev's views of national character, patriotism, and cultural identity.
