内容説明
South Africa has undergone a financial revolution since 1950. In that year, the financial structure was colonial with British banks dominating the scene. By 1990 the situation had been transformed and a host of new institutions had emerged. Foremost among these were the Afrikaner banks and a number of specialised money market institutions. The financial scene mirrored the rise of the Afrikaner economic power and the continued progress of industrialization. This book looks at a number of these new institutions, paying special attention to first Afrikaner banks, the first merchant bank, the first discount house, the first large hire-purchase bank, the first building society to transform itself into both a public company and a bank, and the first development bank. The conclusion surveys the transformation of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
