内容説明

Presented here is a discussion of the measurement and interpretation of diamagnetism and optics of molecular crystals. Molecular crystals are numerous and are of increasing interest in the area of nonlinear optics. They contain discrete molecules and thus exhibit properties directly related to those of their constituent molecules. The first part of this book describes second-rank tensor properties and how they are dependent on the choice of axes and crystal symmetry; the second part covers diamagnetism of molecular crystals, its definition, measurement and interpretation in terms of molecular magnetizabilities (an extensive table of magnetizabilities is included). The final part covers mainly linear optics of insulating molecular crystals, with a concluding section on nonlinear optics. The interpretation of optics is complicated and used to interpret the optical properties in terms of molecular polarizabilities, for which extensive tables are given.
