内容説明

In recent years, industry has had to respond to the rapid developments in new technology to survive in an increasingly competitive environment. Fast, effective adoption depends on a successful training programme, and in the long term new technology can play an important part in the development of a continuous innovation process and in strategic decision-making. The authors analyze the various ways training programmes can contribute to a company's success as it adopts new technology. Based on over 25 case studies in the engineering and microelectronic industries, focusing on Britain and Germany, they cover such areas as the relationship between skills shortage and unemployment, showing how the lack of training opportunities can have a detrimental effect on the company performance and efficiency of its workforce. They argue for the importance of training not just in the workplace but in the educational system in general, concluding that there needs to be much greater investment in training opportunities. This book should be of interest to undergraduates, postgraduates and academics in new technology, human resource management, organizational behaviour, industrial relations and management training.
