内容説明
The field of bioinorganic chemistry has evolved to the point at which more than a dozen metals are now known to be present in cofactors, enzymes, metalloproteins and metalloenzymes. Coupled with the discovery of these metals in biological systems, are the developments of new physical techniques used to examine the metal centres in biomolecules. This overview examines the occurrence of 14 transitional and alkali metals in nature, as well as the structural and physical techniques used to detect and characterize these metal sites. This book stresses the occurrence of each metal in biological systems with a chapter devoted to each metal. There is a section on the interaction of inorganic drugs with biomolecules, such as DNA. By focumsing more on the metal centre, this text takes an inorganic perspective on metallo-biomolecules.
