This book is about nationalism, its history, the political forces it unleashes and its price in world politics. As the world becomes increasingly international through trade and multi-national companies, most people's first loyalty is still to their own country. The vast majority of wars are national, country versus country, or - more recently - nationalist groups like the Basques, Quebecois and Eritreans seeking independent statehood. Communism has had to come to terms with the phenomenon and is increasingly doing so in the USSR. This book examines nationalism, with the use of case studies and examples.
