The area of Structural Computation is, and will be for some time to come, characterized by rapid development, notably because it will continue to make use of the considerable advances in computer hardware and software. Composite materials are also a contributory factor in this development, since they call into question much received wisdom based on homogeneous isotropic structures, and present new problems such as coupled delamination and buckling for example.
