内容説明
In the present volume attractive, interesting and important compounds of low molecular weight have been selected, presented with a suitable, usually historical, introduction and are discussed with reference to related topics. In most cases the discussion is extended to recent publications in the primary literature. The book cannot be a substitute for a textbook of organic chemistry but it supplements it and leads to a deeper understanding of the foundations and interrelations of different disciplines and stimulates interest in peculiarities of structures, syntheses and mechanism, spectroscopic and biological properties in the sprit, interrelations and application of chemistry. References to the literature give further leads to almost all branches of chemistry. This study book consists of relatively short sections, each nearly complete in itself, on interesting molecules and structures. With the aid of a number of "molecular stars" (among them some "supermolecules", e.g. superphane) an attempt is made to enter chemistry from different starting points. Of course, such a primer of organic chemistry cannot be exhaustive.
The selection of the molecules is also debatable - the choice is unlimited. Large molecules and those of mainly biochemical importance and polymer have been deliberately omitted; they are occasionally briefly refered to. However, the selection of molecules from the most varied fields of chemistry made it possible to touch almost all current topics in organic chemistry.
