内容説明

This is an attempt to combine Soviet and Western views on the life of Lev Davidovich, or Leon Trotsky. Born in 1879 and assassinated by an agent of Stalin in 1940, he was Lenin's closest collaborator in the October Revolution of 1917 and its immediate aftermath. Following the triumph of Stalin in the 1930s, there was a systematic attempt to eliminate Trotsky's name from the history books. Now, with glasnost and a revolution in Soviet historiography, new material has been emerging from the Soviet archives. This book represents an attempt by Soviet scholars and Western academics to rescue Trotsky from "non-person" status, to re-assess his personality, examine his role in the Revolution and the civil war, and to reconsider the origins of his opposition to Stalinism.
