Infectious disease is an expanding and exciting area of medicine as year by year new infectious agents are identified and old clinical syndromes are matched with new causative organisms. In children's medicine, as in no other, infection presents a major part of clinical practice and there is a great need to provide an illustrated text to facilitate the diagnosis and understanding of infections. "A Colour Atlas of Paediatric Infectious Diseases" illustrates and describes the wide range of diseases that can occur in childhood, showing the effects they can have on the child, how they are caused and the micro-organisms involved. The atlas takes a body-systems approach with each chapter covering the clinical presentation and microbiology of the infectious diseases affecting that particular organ system. Using high quality colour photographs, flow-charts, diagrams and clear, succint text, the atlas covers the diagnosis and microbiology of childhood infectious diseases, including neonatal, surgical, medical and tropical infections, as well as those occuring in the immune compromised child.
Discussion on the aetiological agents, pathophysiology, management, treatment and prevention of further infections is also included.
