Description and Table of Contents

Description

In its presentation of the functional analysis of the working surface of abrasive tools, this book aims to break new ground. Problems are discussed relating to the application of abrasive materials and tools in machining processes and a "raison d'etre" given for a rational exploitation of abrasive tools. Problems affecting the preparation of abrasives for work, the machining and shaping of the working surface, together with the active cleaning of that surface during the application of abrasives in the grinding process, are looked at in detail. One unique feature incorporated in this book is the treatment of the wear and durability of abrasive tools. This is based on an original theory of the wear of abrasives, encompassing the physical aspects of the wear of abrasive grains in the binder. From this, the authors have developed a model of tool exploitation which ensures optimal wear of the abrasive. The book should prove of considerable value to all those involved in the planning of precision machine operations seeking to get the optimum in economic and practical efficiency.
