内容説明
Since its development in the 1970s, computerized image analysis has witnessed rapid growth and enormous progress. Powerful hardware and robust algorithms have laid the groundwork for highly specialized, automatic image analysis, which has found applications in all fields of biology and medicine. Light microscopy, electron microscopy, and medical sampling have all benefited from this new technology.
Image Analysis in Biology presents a comprehensive look at some of the latest advances in image analysis. The book introduces readers to image analysis with overviews of 3-D analysis, quantitation by laser scanning, confocal microscopy, and quantitative area determination image analysis. It then focuses on the applications of image analysis in microscopy, including contrast enhancement in video images, automatic detection, and recognition of live cells. Other topics presented include the analysis of subcellular structures in electron micrographs and protein analysis; the reconstruction of three-dimensional objects from serial section images; and techniques used for movement analysis of microorganisms, bacteria, and animals, which require fast routines to track the organisms in real time in a sequence of video frames.
Microbiologists, cell biologists, botanists, photochemists, and other researchers involved in fields that utilize computerized image analysis will find a tremendous amount of useful information in this timely volume.
