Description and Table of Contents

Description

This book allows the student to apply personnel theories and research findings to real-life situations. Current and controversial cases are included, such as drug testing, mergers, smoking in the work place, strategic human resource issues and employment at will. The cases cover both large and small organizations, from the public and private sector. "Incidents", or mini cases are used to raise questions around an issue, without seeking a definite answer, and "skill builders" are used to develop specific technical skills. The exercises include role playing, solving personnel problems, and others that apply to specific theories of personnel practices. Most can be completed in fifty minutes. Group projects/term assignments are included at the back of the book. This book should be of interest to degree and diploma students on introductory courses in personnel and human resource management in departments of management and business studies.
