These proceedings evolved from the recent rapid advances made in the field of regulation of growth hormone and somatic growth. Presented here is a comprehensive review of the basic aspects of somatic growth with special emphasis on basic and applied growth hormone. The initial chapters explore the role of peripheral signals in growth hormone regulation such as glucose, gonadal and thyroid hormones and glucocorticoids. Then follows results of research in specific areas and the most recent advances in the regulation of maternal and fetal growth, as well as growth hormone and somatic growth in several domestic species. More specific applications such as GH antibodies are discussed, concluding with recommendations on the methodological approaches to the study of neuropeptides.
