Description
In 1911-12 Sidney and Beatrice Webb undertook an extended tour of the Far East in the course of which they kept a diary recording their impressions as the ancient civilizations of Japan, China and India, each in their separate ways, came to terms with the modern world. This document is a valuable addition to early 20th century travel literature. It also bears on the Webb's continuing intellectual pilgrimage at a critical juncture in their lives and in Asian and European history.
