内容説明

The unifying theme of this volume - how neuronal functioning relates to behaviour - is reflected in the reviews and experimental reports with analysis ranging from the molecular to the behavioural level. The volume once more demonstrates the great advantage of molluscs as model systems in neurobiology, due to their relatively simple and highly accessible nervous systems and the simplicity of a number of types of behaviour. The field of molluscan neurobiology has shown considerable progress over the past decade and is still expanding. Classical (neuro)endocrinology has been largely replaced by the molecular approach, employing the great opportunities of methods from molecular genetics like DNA cloning and PCR techniques. Though the main importance of molluscan neurobiology is to be found in offering model systems for the study of general mechanisms, the section `Molluscs in Biomedical research' illustrates how these models can be employed for the study of neurotoxicity of clinically or environmentally important agents.
