Description and Table of Contents
Description
The author traces the history of the fertile lower Medjerda Valley in rural Tunisia since colonial times, with a focus on national agricultural development policies. Arguing that development programs have seldom taken into account the political and economic realities of the rural population, Dr. Zussman provides a framework for understanding the "fellahin's" opposition, refuting the label of "peasant mentality" that has been placed on them.
