Description and Table of Contents

Description

Wood composites, wood glued products and wood laminated products have increased in popularity in recent years due to a need for lightweight, high strength materials, and the increase in environmental concerns involving the destruction of forest land in the production of high grade timber. This increase in usage has caused the development of many new adhesives as well as techniques used to bond wood together. The author has written this volume to address all of the factors involved in the wood gluing/bonding process. He covers the chemical make-up of woods and adhesives and the changes that occur during bonding. This leads into the problems that may occur and the necessary steps that are taken to identify and correct these flaws.

Table of Contents

Bond formation fundamentals. Composition and characteristics of adhesives. Composition and characteristics of wood. Characteristics conferred in preparation of wood. Characteristics conferred in preparing adhesives. Wood geometry factors. Consolidation processes. Quality control. Bond performance: testing and evaluation. Guide to troubleshooting.
