内容説明

Over the past few decades, advances in science and technology have led to social ills as well as to social betterment. As a result, the legal profession has become increasingly involved in the domain of scientific research, calling upon scientists and engineers to act as expert witnesses and advisors."Law and Science, " now in its third revision and first hardcover edition, presents a selection of the most useful writings in the field. Its 1,776 entries were selected to provide a broad sample of the relevant research and to guide readers to additional references. For this reason the "Bibliography" gives preference to such materials as bibliographies, review articles, and indices rather than short articles, particularly ones that focus on narrowly specific areas such as penology and criminal law. The introductory essay by Morris L. Cohen has been newly revised.Major headings are: "General discussion of law and science; Law and social science, including empirical research on the law; Law as science: scientific methods, logic, and legal reasoning; Science and the adjudicatory function of law; The law of computers and the leagal uses of computers; Legal problems of privacy; Medicine and law; Legal control of hazards to public health and safety; Natural resources and environmental controls, national and international; Science and international law; Government, law, and scientific research; Author Index.
