内容説明

Dealing equally with diverse aspects of immobilized biosystems - such as material science of matrices, performance characteristics of enzyme engineering processes utilizing immobilized biosystems and biochemical engineering of the latter processes - this book provides a concise description of all aspects of this important and fast-moving scientific area. Focusing in particular on the closely related fields of chemistry of biopolymers, applied microbiology and biochemistry, especially from the aspect of immobilized biosystems, the authors also provide an interpretation of processes of enzyme engineering via general physico-chemical phenomena. These include biospecificity and biorecognition, hydrophobicity, and partitioning, all of which should make the book valuable not only to those working in biotechnology but also to chemists, biochemists and microbiologists. Opening with a look at the broad spectrum of matrices and their characterization, the authors then discuss selection techniques which use the phase boundary of biopolymer modifications. They review the latest results and developments in affinity techniques and provide detailed descriptions of the clasical and modern immobilization techniques together with methods of their characterization (including mathematical interpretation of the phenomena). Finally, the authors address the modelling and applications of biocatalysts, providing results of the latest research in the field from all over the world including the United Kingdom, United States, Russia, Scandinavia and Japan.
