Description
Recently developed anatomical and immunological techniques have led to a more profound knowledge and understanding of palatine and pharyngeal tonsils. This volume offers an expert overview of the latest research results on the pathophysiology of tonsils together with their implications for clinical practice. Early sections in the book are devoted to the morphology and developmental anatomy of tonsils as well as the functions of tonsils in immune activities as revealed by the new techniques. Further sections thoroughly discuss tonsillar infections and address controversial issues such as focal infection of tonsils and adenoids and otitis media in children. The final section highlights selected current topics in medical and surgical therapy. Taken together, these papers provide a timely update on developments in this important area and serve as a valuable reference source for otorhinolaryngologists, pediatricians and immunologists.
