Description and Table of Contents

Description

First published in 1979, the Handbook is now recognized as a standard source of information on the British trade union movement. This new edition reflects the main changes that have taken place since the previous edition appeared. The book is divided into four parts. The first contains a descriptive analysis of the trade union movement as a whole and the three TUCs, including discussion of current trends and issues. The second part, on international TU organizations, TU confederations and federations and trade councils, includes material on background and aims where applicable and names and addresses of key officials. Part 3, the heart of the book, is a directory of individual trade unions. Here will be found names and addresses for contacting the union, the number of members and details of its branch structure, as well as a description of the composition of the union and its policy. The entries follow a standard pattern, so that it is easy to locate any particular type of information. The concluding part gives the addresses of government and other organizations concerned with industrial relations.
