内容説明
South Africa is one of the world's richest areas of biodiversity. However, with its mixture of First World environmental problems, such as acid rain, and Third World environmental problems, such as soil erosion, it is also a microcosm of the environmental challenges facing the planet. This book points to the seriousness of some of these challenges.;At the same time, however, it shows how a mass-based environmental movement is beginning to deal with the problems. It explains how a wide variety of social groups are mobilizing around a diversity of environmental issues, ranging from asbestos dumps to water and air pollution, from lead-free petrol to herbicides, from saving threatened places of natural beauty to nuclear energy and toxic waste.
