内容説明

"Yeats and Women" is a collection of essays on W.B.Yeats which focuses upon his relation to women; its critical and biographical approaches employ feminist and psychoanalytic theory, and social anthropology. It covers such areas as sexuality and its dynamic in his writing; his relationship with Maud Gonne, Olivia Shakespear, Florence Farr and Edith Shackleon Heald and his late concern with impotence and lesbianism. His financial and literary relationship with Lady Gregory is analyzed from a point of view not his own. His occult friendship with Dorothea Hunter is revealed by means of newly discovered papers, including her memoirs; while the controversial issue of his interest in eugenics and racial theories of intelligence is also examined in the light of manuscripts and letters. Other unpublished material in the volume includes Florence Farr's letters to Yeats, and a new poem. The 17 plates include the tomb and coffin of Maud Gonne's first child, Florence Farr's occult Egyptian shrine, and the last photograph of Yeats.
