内容説明
This book is written in the light of the National Curriculum and the new role of design education in schools. The purpose of this book is to argue the case for a central role for design in the curriculum at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Throughout the 12 chapters, written in the main by design teachers, the various sub-disciplines, including graphic design, architecture and design criticism are discussed. The volume indicates the design issues already being explored, conveys the debate and finally summarizes current issues in design education for teachers. In arguing the case for a central role for design in the curriculum, it offers models for its implementation and indicates the types of design issues already being explored across all spheres of education, from general to specialist. It also summarizes current and recent issues in Design education for the benefit of teachers of Art and Design, representatives of whom have been the main principal contributors in this debate.
It informs teachers in all subjects across the curriculum who may be called upon to participate in co-ordinated design studies and stresses innovation and originality, using all kinds of mental and material exploration, encouraging the student to conceive and make useful items of significance and beauty.
