Description
With the end of the Gulf War, as well as the Cold War, new possibilities have emerged for a peace settlement between Arabs and Israelis. Little has been written, however, about what types of agreements the two sides might reach in such areas as arms control and economic cooperation, and because the prospects for peace have seemed so slim, there has been little discussion of the process by which the two parties might continue negotiations once they were initiated. Responding to this lacuna, a group of Arab, Israeli, US, Canadian, European and Soviet scholars contribute to this path-breaking volume. The authors move beyond the platitudes and presumptions of peacemaking in the Middle East to address the fundamental problems that both sides will have to confront as peace becomes a realistic goal.
