Description
Our knowledge of the relationship between the brain and behaviour greatly expanded in the period between 1870 and World War II. The observations, theories and preferences of researchers at the time had a strong formative influence on present-day work. Some very popular current views were in fact first published then, although the sources were subsequently forgotten. This volume critically reviews literature from the period which addressed the interdependencies of the brain and intellectual functions. The vast amount of historical material treated covers major sources of the time which are not readily accessed today. The book is intended for neuroscientists, psychologists, medical historians and physicians.
