Focusing primarily on those issues which most frequently face creditors who become involved in US bankruptcy proceedings, this introduction provides non-US practitioners with an overview of the US bankruptcy law and summarizes the key substantive provisions of the US bankruptcy code. Beginning with a brief historical note and discussion of critical changes in the structure of bankcruptcy courts and bankruptcy jurisdiction in the 1980s, this book touches on all aspects of US bankruptcy law and emphasizes the most common problems: the property of the estate; the automatic stay; avoiding powers; and the process of business reorganization.
