Description

The author's experience convinced him of the great relevance of psychology to clinical optometry, yet the interface between the two disciplines is not well developed in comparision with the relationship between psychology and other medical and paramedical professions. That is what prompted him to write this volume. In it, she offers some ideas from psychology which have, as yet, barely percolated through to the optometric community, and hope that the book may act as a catalyst for further work in the area. She has tried to do justice to both optometric and psychological science while retaining readability; and aimed to provide sufficient referencing to support the text without becoming turgid. She has also tried to maintain a practical approach throughout, drawing upon clinical experience as well as published literature and making explicit the connections between the psychological topics under consideration and clincical practice. However, this is not a handbook of vision testing although various tests and procedures are mentioned at various points. A basic knowledge of the visual system and vision testing is assumed. Although the book was written mainly for practising optometrists and students and teachers of optometry, it should also be of interest to others involved in vision care, such as opthalmologists, orthoptists and ophthalmic nurses, as well as students of those subjects.
