Description and Table of Contents

Description

This introductory reader is intended for students of anthropology, sociology and women's studies. The text aims to provide broad cross-cultural coverage to encourage comparative analysis of the theme of the anthropology of gender. It addresses issues of gender in industrial society as well as in developing societies, and complements research on women's lives with some articles on masculinity and male gender roles. Research into the application of feminist theory to the study of men is incorporated.
