内容説明

This volume reviews recent research findings, and outlines directions for future research, on neural regeneration after injury in the mammalian nervous system. Chapters include studies on axonal dynamics during regeneration; the fate of denervated neurons; supporting cells in the central and peripheral nervous systems; and the role of adhesive molecules of the cell surface and extracellular matrix in neural regeneration. The section on the peripheral nervous system examines neurotrophic function in normal nerves and in peripheral neuropathies; nerve-muscle trophic interactions; and the relevance of Schwann cells to nerve pathology. Coverage of the central nervous system includes non-regenerative approaches to spinal cord injury; neural repair after traumatic brain injury; molecular cascades in adaptive versus pathological plasticity; the pharmacology of neuronal regeneration; and the role of neurotrophic factors in regeneration.
