This book documents the achievements of Sonderforschlungsbereich '41 and is intended to be an up-to-date review written by authors who have gained knowledge and insight from their own research in the field. The selection of topics aims to reflect the coherence of a research programme characterized by internal co-operation. The topics covered range from preparative polymer chemistry and physical chemistry to experimental and theoretical polymer physics. The contributors aim to cover related work and provide guidelines to related literature. New results and developments started after the end of Sonderforsclungsbereich '41 in December 1987 are included in order to present an updated review.
