This study examines and analyzes the role, planning and operation of international road hauliers based in the former East European countries. It outlines the problems they face and the opportunities the new model of Europe should provide. It also emphasizes the role that West European hauliers can play in the market, and the activities that the European Community carry out in this field in the light of 1992. It concludes by stressing the actions needed in the near future by governments and operators alike.
