Description

Metastasis is still the leading cause of death in cancer patients. In order to improve the prevention and treatment of metastasis, the basic principles and mechanisms of this complex process need to be elucidated. This volume contains the reports of internationally renowned scientists and clinicians on recent progress in metastasis research and its clinical applications. The contributions detail what is now known about the basic processes of metastasis and the specific cellular components, extracellular factors and genes that are involved. The implications of this new knowledge for impeding steps in the metastatic cascade are also discussed. Bringing together findings from theoretical, experimental and clinical metastasis research, this book provides readers with a thorough overview of current efforts to meet the many challenges posed by metastasis.
