Description and Table of Contents

Description

Over the past two decades growth factors have been isolated and characterized in large numbers, and extensive progress has been made in the structural and functional characterization of cell surface receptors and intracellular components that mediate the effects of these factors. This book presents the latest research results of international groups actively involved in the study of cell and tissue responsiveness to growth factors. Results of special interest include data on the basic activity and molecular function of oncogenes of the "ras" family and of tyrosine kinases. The contributions discussing transforming growth factor beta and nerve growth factor contain much information for scientists interested in the application of basic research achievements to the therapy and cure of human diseases.
