Description

This special collection of original articles is designed to acquaint readers with the most recent American scholarship on colloquial Russian (CR). The individual contributors have explored and advanced some of the earlier findings of Soviet colleagues, applying a refreshingly broad spectrum of linguistic, literary, and pedagogical analyses to them. Both the scope of the individual articles and their unifying theme reflect the high degree of interest and scholarly activity the CR has generated in the United States. The very topical nature of these works on spoken discourse present the reader with new data-driven findings having theoretical significance in the areas of pragmatics, syntax, intonation, morphology, phonetics, narrative technique, language interference, sociolinguistics, and language pedagogy.
