Description
For the last ten years The Royal Institute of British Architects has held its annual International Student Competition for young and aspiring architects worldwide. This prestigious event, based on the competitors' responses to a specific brief, allows them full scope to formulate their ideas and channel their creativity. The event has often proved instrumental in launching new talent onto the international stage. To mark a decade of these competitions, this full-colour restrospective volume reproduces the outstanding entries from each year; in addition, featured alongside the student works are works by successive panels of judges, who have been appointed from amongst the most eminent international practising architects.
Serving simultaneously as the 1992 Catalogue for the exhibition at the Royal Academy, and as a ten-year restrospective, this publication provides a broad overview of the Competition, showcasing all of its most memorable highlights; a further dimension is added by the presentation of recent work and projects by both the winning architects and the judges, including Zaha Hadid, Sir Richard Rogers, Sir Norman Foster, Tadao Ando, Itsuko Hasegawa and the late Sir James Stirling.
