内容説明

Poverty and war have been the afflictions of the Central American states. With the Central American wars of the 1980s abating in the 1990s, poverty rises to the top of the agenda. But the political and social structures of these countries represent a powerful barrier to a more equitable pattern of economic growth. This collection of seven essays addresses the challenge of Central America's reconstruction and reactivation, addressing broad issues of development strategy as well as technical issues of export promotion, stabilization, and land reform. The authors, European, American, and Central American, go beyond the conventional cliches of "structural adjustment" to uncover the fundamental barriers to achieving economic justice in Central America. Wim Pelupessy is also the editor of "Crisis Economica en CentroAmerica y el Caribe" (with M.Lundahl) and "Perspectives on the Agro-Export Economy in Central America". John Weeks is the author of "Capital and Exploitation", "The Economics of Central America" and "A Critique of Neoclassical Macroeconomics".
